Tingling Feet: The Causes to Rule Out Before Any Supplement
Pins and needles in the feet are a symptom with many causes, some of them easy to fix.
A common symptom with many causes
In two large U.S. cohorts, about a quarter of middle-aged and older adults could not feel a standard monofilament on the foot[2]. Peripheral neuropathy, damage to the long nerves that reach the feet and hands, is the usual explanation, and it has many possible causes[1].
Causes worth checking
| Cause | How it is found | Why it matters |
|---|---|---|
| Diabetes or prediabetes | Fasting glucose, A1c | The most common cause; control slows damage |
| Vitamin B12 deficiency | B12 blood test, sometimes methylmalonic acid | Reversible if caught; common with metformin |
| Thyroid underactivity | TSH blood test | Treatable |
| Alcohol | History | Stopping can halt progression |
| Kidney disease | Creatinine, eGFR | Affects nerves and drug dosing |
| Medicines, chemotherapy | Medication review | Some can be changed |
| Inherited, autoimmune and other causes | Specialist tests | Need a neurologist |
Diabetes leads the list; its nerve damage involves high glucose, small-vessel injury and inflammation[7]. Low vitamin B12 is the classic reversible cause[5], and long-term metformin raises its likelihood[6].
Red flags that need prompt care
- Symptoms that come on over days or weeks, or climb quickly
- Weakness, foot drop or falls
- Symptoms in one leg or one hand only
- A foot wound, blister or color change you did not feel
- Bladder or bowel changes with leg symptoms (emergency)
What the guidelines say
The American Diabetes Association recommends screening everyone with type 2 diabetes for neuropathy at diagnosis, and everyone with type 1 diabetes five years after diagnosis, then at least yearly, with a foot examination at each visit[3] [4]. If you have diabetes and have never had a monofilament test, ask for one.
Where supplements fit
An herbal capsule cannot tell you which of these causes you have, and none can fix a B12 deficiency or an underactive thyroid. Get the diagnosis first. If you then want to try something like Nerve Honey for evening calm, you will be doing it with the fixable causes already handled.
Questions on this topic
What blood tests should I ask for with tingling feet?
Commonly glucose or A1c, vitamin B12, thyroid function and kidney function; your doctor may add others.
Can tingling feet go away?
Sometimes, when the cause is reversible, such as B12 deficiency or a medicine. Diabetic damage can be slowed but rarely reversed.

Treat Nerve Honey as a 60-day experiment you can measure
Checkout happens on the seller's BuyGoods page, not here. Before the first dose, run the label past your pharmacist if you use sleep aids, pain medicine or anything for mood; write down a 0 to 10 score for tingling, burning and sleep; keep the order email and the packing slip; and settle by day 45 whether the bottles go back to Florida while the window is still open.
